July 8, 2009 - Dobson Ranch Golf Course Ranked Tops in Arizona

The August, 2009 edition of Golf Digest has ranked the best municipal golf courses in all 50 states and has selected Dobson Ranch Golf Course, owned by the City of Mesa, as the number one course in Arizona.

Using a combination of star ratings from the magazine's "Best Places to Play" and "Best in State Rankings," Golf Digest selected the best "muny" golf course in each state owned by a city, town, county or state. Dobson Ranch received four and a half out of a maximum five stars, giving it top honors in Arizona. The magazine praises Dobson Ranch as a "very playable muny at a great price."

"This ranking by the number one golf publication in the country is a testament to the staff and the course itself, providing an amazing golf experience," Dobson Ranch Golf Superintendent Don Flavell said. "The value you get for the quality of golf at Dobson Ranch is second to none in Arizona and the recognition by Golf Digest proves it."

Dobson Ranch, which opened in 1974, was designed by Red Lawrence and is a par 72, 18-hole championship golf course with 6,712 yards of tree-lined fairways. There's a lighted driving range and practice facility, and PGA golf instruction is offered for players of all ages and abilities. Free junior clinics are held each summer following the end of the school year.

The Pro Shop features a full line of professional golf equipment and apparel and can be reached at (480) 644-2270.

For more information, contact Dobson Ranch Golf Supervisor Don Flavell at 480-644-4181.
