Low-cost airline, Allegiant Air, LLC, is gearing up for a busy winter tourism season adding five new markets to their already impressive roster of favorite small cities across America. The airline is the only commercial carrier flying into Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, a dynamic reliever airport to Phoenix’s Sky Harbor International Airport servicing the east Phoenix metropolitan area which includes MesaArizona’s third-largest city.

Beginning this October, the airline will provide the only non-stop, low-cost service to the following new cities from Mesa, Ariz.: Eugene, Medford and Redmond/Bend, OR; Springfield, MO; Bismarck, ND and Great Falls, MT. Service is already offered in Cedar Rapids, IA; Sioux Falls and Rapid City, SD; Missoula, and Billings, MT; Bellingham, WA; and Fargo, ND. Seasonal service will also resume to Peoria and Chicago/Rockford, IL this winter.

To handle the increase in air traffic, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is undergoing an expansion bringing the 24,000-square-foot terminal to 34,000 square feet with the addition of an annex. The expansion will allow for increased separation for TSA baggage screening from check-in, provide a larger check-in queue system, add one more gate to four total and create an outside pavilion with a secured area for departing passengers. The expansion also gives Allegiant Air ability to operate four simultaneous departures and will bring the hold room area to nearly 500 seats with additional standing room.

This winter the airport is expected to play an even larger role in relieving passenger traffic to Phoenix’s Sky Harbor International Airport. The airport provides a convenient alternative for passengers flying in and out of Phoenix and serves as a gateway to East Valley communities including Mesa, Gilbert, Gila River Indian Community, Queen Creek and Apache Junction. The airport boasts three expansive runways, convenient parking and on-site rental car service.
