Mesa Attractions, Hotels, Museums – Kick Off to Bureau’s 25th Anniversary

April 28, 2008 (MESA, Ariz.) – The year was 1983 and Mesa was a budding tourism destination having served for decades prior as a winter haven for sun-bound travelers. Hotel developments were springing up across Mesa and the city collected its first-ever bed-tax revenue check thereby establishing the Mesa Convention & Visitors Bureau as the city’s main promotional arm to service burgeoning tourism developments. Since that time, the Mesa CVB has played an integral role over the past 25 years helping establish Arizona’s third-largest city as a leading vacation, small meeting and sports and leisure travel destination.

As a kick-off to the silver anniversary, Mesa Convention & Visitors Bureau has created a summer discount program, Summer Savings in Mesa, where Mesa area hospitality partners offer a discount on their services, admissions or other specials and incentives to summer travelers. The program will ignite a series of 25th Anniversary promotions and programming for the bureau over the next year.

Summer Savings in Mesa will be launched on May 10 in conjunction with National Tourism Week also celebrating its 25th Anniversary. National Tourism Week, held May 10 – 18, is a week-long promotion sponsored by the Travel Industry Association of America which empowers cities, states and businesses nationwide to promote travel and tourism in America. The goal of this collective effort is to recognize the cultural and social benefits created by travel and tourism. In Mesa, dollars spent by tourists help pay for essential city services, contribute to the creation of jobs and enhance resident’s quality of life. Most specials offered in the program will expire on August 31.

Though targeted to travelers visiting Mesa, there is no restriction on who can benefit from the savings. The program will be marketed primarily to in-state residents outside Maricopa County via advertising and utilizing statewide visitor’s offices for brochure distribution. Many offers will be tied into the bureau’s 25th Anniversary theme, offering savings in increments of “25” (ex: 25% off, $2.50 savings, etc.). Guests can either present the brochure to obtain the discount or download a savings card on a special website, beginning May 10. The downloadable savings card or rack brochure will be the only item the guest needs to show in order to receive discounts for the Mesa savings.

The following are just some of the discounts featured in the Summer Savings in Mesa program. For a complete listing of savings and additional discounts offered visit beginning May 10:
