Mesa offers all the comforts of a city while also being close to outdoor adventure. There are six lakes and two rivers within 60 miles of Mesa that let you experience desert boating, swimming, fishing, sailing, and water skiing, or you can hop on a rubber raft and float leisurely along the cool waters of the Salt River. You can board the Dolly Steamboat, a "Mark Twain” replica of a sternwheeler paddleboat, and cruise Canyon Lake on a 90-minute adventure. You'll see breathtaking canyons and mountain vistas, towering Saguaro cacti and desert wildflowers, and maybe, if you look closely, you will see Bighorn Sheep on the mountain tops.

The mysterious Superstition Mountains just east of Mesa provide families the opportunity to explore adventures that will last a lifetime. Jeep tours, hiking treks, mountain biking, family camping trips, multi-day off-road excursions, horseback riding, hay wagon rides, and breakfast and dinner campfire cookouts will enhance your Mesa experience. You can visit prehistoric Indian ruins, pan for gold in the ghost town of Goldfield, tour one of 50 old mines, ride a Narrow Gauge Railroad, and visit Tortilla Flat, an old stagecoach stop with a population of six.

Families visiting Mesa are graced with the flavor of the desert Southwest.
