SportsEvents Magazine’s Readers’ Choice Awards Recognize Excellence in Hosting Sporting Events

(MESA, Ariz.) – Mesa Convention & Visitors Bureau will be featured in this month’s issue of SportsEvents magazine as part of their annual feature, “50+ Planners & Places to Watch in 2009”. The bureau was recognized as one of the top sports destinations in the country by readers of the trade publication.

Mesa has always actively marketed themselves as a top destination for sporting events of all levels: amateur, youth, collegiate, and professional. In fact, according to bureau estimates, more than 65% of room nights generated in Mesa as a result of their efforts are contributed to athletic competitions held in the city.

“It’s a great honor,” said Aaron Muth, Group Sales Manager who oversees the bureau’s sports marketing efforts. “It’s always nice to be recognized by your colleagues in the industry. These readers are our clients and they know that Mesa offers an enticing package for sports when compared to other destinations. Being included in a short list of best places will definitely help Mesa be that more attractive to potential events in the future.”

The SportsEvents feature spotlights industry professionals from across the country who have exhibited a high level of professionalism, creativity and excellence in hosting sports events. The sports event planners have garnered attention in the industry for their ability to recognize and rise above the various challenges of running sports events, for their innovative and creative approaches to planning and executing sports events, for their ability to inspire others, for their dedication to their jobs, and for their passion for sports by providing opportunities for thousands of youth and adults to compete in sports.

Such recognition comes off the heels of the bureau hosting the Arizona Basketball Challenge last month which involved 12 teams across the state and others from across the country. Competing teams came from neighboring Utah and as far as Washington and Florida. Earlier this month, the bureau hosted a familiarization tour for the Western Athletic Conference who is considering Mesa on a short list of destinations to host their post-season baseball championships.
