Summer is a special time of year to visit City Limitless®, with longer days providing more time to explore our city's dynamic arts and culture scene, dine at acclaimed restaurants with international menus, sip your way through the City Limitless® Beer & Brews Tour, and spend time with family at one of our attractions or festivals. While the long summer days bring warmer temperatures, visitors will find it easy to cool down and keep the summer fun going at one of the many splash pads, water playgrounds, pools and surfing simulators available throughout Mesa.

1. Mesa Riverview Park

Mesa's newest park has been transformed into a premier recreation destination for families to enjoy (and cool off at). Free to visit and home to Sloan Park — the spring training destination of the Chicago Cubs — the destination features a splash pad with multiple water features, a five-acre urban fishing lake, a 50-foot climbing tower, miles of accessible sidewalks, and plenty of shaded picnic areas perfect for drying off while remaining cool.

2. FlowRider at Rhodes Aquatic Complex

Surfing? In the desert in Arizona? The FlowRider at the Rhodes Aquatic Complex defies conventional logic and brings an authentic surfing experience to the heart of Mesa by using powerful jets of water to simulate small, shreddable waves. Perfect for those looking to learn how to surf, or surfing enthusiasts looking for an aquatic escape in the middle of the desert, the FlowRider allows guests to cool down and test their skills on boogie boards as they ride waves separated by cushioned fences. Sessions without fences are available later in the afternoon for thrill-seekers looking to tackle the full breadth of the wave.

When not shredding the waves, Rhodes Aquatic Complex has all the essentials for the perfect sun-soaking day with a beach entry pool, diving boards, lap lanes and a large splash pad with tumble buckets.

3. Pioneer Park

Pioneer Park's 15-foot water wall and splash pad are the perfect way to cool off during a warm summer day. After drying off from being drenched, explore the historical steam locomotive, then head to Downtown Mesa for a bite to eat.

4. Mesa Aquatic Complex

Mellow out with the family in the lazy river at Mesa’s newest pool. This perfect water oasis is a child’s dream for summertime fun. The kids will go straight to bed after a day of playing like they’re at the beach in the zero-depth entry pool. Allow the inner-tube to cruise you around the lazy river and watch as your summer gets that much more relaxing.

5. Founders’ Park

Founders' Park in Queen Creek takes splash pads to the next level. Here, kids can play with water cannons, mushrooms and more as they explore the 4,000-square-foot water playground. Open each year from March to October, it’s the perfect way to enjoy the weather, whether it’s Spring Break or summer vacation.

6. Mansel Carter Oasis Park

The pirate shipwreck-themed splash pad at Mansel Carter Oasis Park is "aargh"-uably one of the best around. Queen Creek's newest and largest park pulls out all the stops for this water retreat. After splashing around, make time to take in the views of the 5-acre lake and waterfall, and post up for a leisurely lunch at one of the eight shaded ramadas.

7. Stapley Aquatic Complex

Open for public swim beginning in late May and home to a competition-sized lap pool and multiple diving boards, the Stapley Aquatic Complex also features a jungle gym equipped with water features to keep kids cool. This water jungle gym is topped with a slide that exits directly into the water. To take the fun up a notch, the complex also features a three-loop water slide, again sending riders straight into the refreshing waters below.

8. Golfland Sunsplash

Cool off and cut loose with the family at Golfland Sunsplash where kids — and the kids at heart — can enjoy some water leisure. The park is equipped with several breath-taking water slides that will have you dropping and zigzagging around every turn.

Not up for the adrenaline rush? Take a plunge in the Thunder Bay wavepool, float along the lazy river, or check out the toddler tadpole pool and other youngster water attractions

9. Skyline Aquatics Center

Train like you’re one of the best while the kids zoom down the water slide at the Skyline Aquatics Center. This aquatic center is stocked with all the water splashing necessities with a beach entry pool, diving boards, water tumble buckets, water slide, and an Olympic-size state-of-the-art competition pool. When we said train like you’re a pro, we meant it. This pool has hosted the best with Olympic gold medalists Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky competing here in the Arena Pro Swim Series.

10. Delta Hotels by Marriott Phoenix-Mesa

Cooling down doesn't always have to include thrilling slides, simulated waves or soaking playgrounds. Those looking for a bit of peace and quiet can spend a relaxing afternoon poolside at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Phoenix-Mesa. The pool is accessible to hotel guests, however the public can purchase day passes for access to the pool, fitness center and hot tub, with complimentary parking and WiFi access included.
