Girl with Pumpkins Fall has arrived! It's not only the perfect season to visit Mesa, it's the perfect time of year for locals to get outside for a family fun day or date night. From art shows to movies and spooky celebrations, festivals are lurking and deals are brewing in Mesa as we approach the new season!



Here's your guide to everything you can do for FREE in Mesa this fall:



SEEDS, a community celebration at Mesa Urban Garden

This free event on Sept. 27 from 6 – 8 p.m. features local artists, storytelling, open mic, native crafts, youth activities and a performance from Dancing Earth. Open since July 2012, Mesa Urban Garden is a community organization that provides fresh produce for the community and local food banks. Admission to SEEDS is free, and food from Republica Empanada will be available for purchase. If you want even more fun for free, bring non-perishable food items to donate at SEEDS to the United Food Bank and receive a free ticket to Dancing Earth: Indigenous Contemporary Dance Creations at Mesa Arts Center on Sept. 30! 


4th Annual Garlic Festival at Queen Creek Olive Mill

Get your garlic fill at the huge, FREE two-day event at the Queen Creek Olive Mill! Organically grown estate garlic from their garden will be sold Saturday, Sept. 30, and Sunday, Oct. 1 at the festival. On top of that, you can enjoy live music, Valley food trucks, a beer and wine garden, cooking demos, garlic gelato, games, tours and more! This family-friendly event is unique and the newest staple at this Fresh Foodie Trail location. Don’t worry, breath mints will be provided!

Mesa BazaarMesa Arts Center Dia de Los Muertos Festival Vendors

Celebrate all things local at the Mesa Bazaar in Downtown Mesa on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. This modern market takes place on Main St. and South Macdonald and includes a variety of handmade items. Enjoy food trucks, live music, craft beer and cocktails while browsing vendors with vintage goods, home décor, art, jewelry and more! Entry to the Bazaar is FREE.


Downtown Mesa Festival of the Arts and Farmers Market

Formerly known as the Mesa Arts & Crafts Festival, this FREE event in Downtown Mesa features unique artist creations, music and more! Take advantage of the good weather this season by strolling through Downtown and enjoying the artists and vendors, or even purchasing an irreplaceable piece for yourself! The fall dates for the festival are Oct. 7 & 21 and Nov. 4, 11 & 18, so don’t miss out! Visit our events calendar for full list of festival dates for the 2017 – 2018 season.


Trick or Treat on Main St.

Get ready for a spooktacular time in Downtown Mesa! Little ghouls and goblins, princesses and superheroes, mummies and vampires and more can walk down Main Street and stop at participating businesses for a candy or treat surprise on Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. You can also enjoy games, face painting and activities in Downtown Mesa’s D-Lab, a pedestrian-friendly ally, if you need a break from trick-or-treating. This FREE and safe event is perfect for families and Halloween fans of all ages!


Fall Out to Lunch Concert Series at Mesa Arts CenterOut-to-lunch Concert Series Mesa Arts Center

Music is in the air this fall! Every Thursday from Nov. 2 – Dec. 21, enjoy FREE afternoon concerts in the Wells Fargo Garden performance area on the Shadow Walk at the Mesa Arts Center. Concerts begin at 12:30 p.m. and attendees are encouraged to bring their own comfortable folding chairs or blankets. Every week is a different sound, and lunch, drink and dessert selections will be available for purchase. You can also opt to bring your own picnic lunch at this season’s Out-to-Lunch Concert Series in Mesa.



Ride-in Movies at the Park

‘You bring the blankets and we’ll supply the popcorn’ at the fall season’s select Ride-in Movie dates. Movie-goers are encouraged to ride their bicycles or walk to Mountain View Park on Oct. 7 for a viewing of Hocus Pocus, and Escobedo Park on Nov. 4 to watch The LEGO Batman Movie. This FREE, family-friendly outdoor event is hosted by the City of Mesa’s Bike & Pedestrian Program and SRP. Well-behaved pets are welcome, and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics to the showings. Don’t forget your helmets and bike lights!


Spark! After Dark at the Mesa Arts CenterMesa Spark Festival Wall Writing

Turn down the lights and turn up the music every third Saturday from October to June. Hosting a new artist with a unique, fun theme every month, enjoy live art, live music, great food and more at this FREE event at the Mesa Arts Center. Mark your calendars now: Oct. 21 and Nov. 18, from 8 p.m. – 11 p.m., are the fall dates for Spark! After Dark.



2nd Friday Night Out in Downtown Mesa

Join the fun every 2nd Friday of the month in Downtown Mesa. Enjoy art, dining, shopping, activities, entertainment and more at this FREE event from 6 – 10 p.m. Every 2nd Friday Night Out has a different theme, and what better way to celebrate the spookiest month of the year than on Friday the 13th, with a costume contest and zombie walk! “Nightmare on Main St.” comes alive this October! You’ll be dying for more…


Dia de los Muertos Festival at the Mesa Arts Center

Enjoy a variety of food, a colorful Mercado featuring local vendors, and live entertainment at the Dia de los Muertos Festival at the Mesa Arts Center Oct. 28 – 29. At this FREE event, join the community in celebrating and remembering those who have passed on during the traditional Mexican holiday. Embrace this cultural event and rejoice loved ones at the festival where spirits connect in Downtown Mesa this season!
