Summertime, and the livin’ is easy… and we are here to make it easier by bringing you 10 ways to save on summer fun! Whether you are planning a staycation or travelling to Mesa – we’re sure you will find something that the whole family will enjoy.
Get into the holiday mood for Independence Day early this year by heading out to the Mesa Market Place Swap Meet on July 1st. Kids (and parents) are welcome to enjoy face painters and balloon artists and are invited to write notes and color pictures to go into ‘Packages From Home’ care packages that are destined to go to soldiers serving overseas.
Penguins in the desert? Join Usery Mountain National Park on July 1st for a movie night about the strange and spectacular animals that call deserts their “home”—yes, even penguins. If you can’t make this movie night, Usery Park puts on Kids Creature Feature Movies in their nature center every Wednesday in July.
You and the fam won’t want to miss the “coolest” independence festival in Arizona: The Arizona Celebration of Freedom! The Celebration will be held at the Mesa Convention Center and Mesa Amphitheater on July 4th and will include: live-music, the ultimate patriotic displays, a naturalization ceremony and a memorial honoring Southwestern fallen heroes from battle.
Support local artists
Enjoy a stroll through Downtown Mesa this summer and support local artists at the Downtown Summer Art Market presented by The Downtown Festival of the Arts and SW Herb Shop. Three dates remain: July 22nd, August 19th and September 23rd.
Calling all parents: Mark your calendars for September 3rd to take the kiddos to Free Family Sunday at the i.d.e.a. Museum. Admission into the museum is free and will feature the ‘My Favorite Monster’ exhibition.
Recurring daily (5 PM to 10 PM) through Labor Day, kids 10 and under will receive a free kid’s meal with the purchase of an adult entrée at Arizona’s iconic Rustler’s Rooste Steakhouse.
Put on your dancing shoes and head on over to Annabelle’s Lounge at Arizona Golf Resort to enjoy live Dixieland Jazz and Swing music with Cheryl Thurston’s Cats & Jammers. Admission is free but food and beverages are available for sale.
Wear your best pocket protector because July’s 2nd Friday Night Out theme is Freaks ‘N Geeks and there will be a vintage video game contest throughout the evening. The second Friday of each month in Downtown Mesa is filled with shopping, dining and entertainment as Mesa downtown galleries and businesses join to create an exciting, family-friendly way to spend a Friday night.
Riverview Park is known for its amazing playground and climbing structures but it’s also home to a spectacular splash pad! This water wonderland is open seven days a week from 10 AM to 10 PM. Tip: Pack some sandwiches and snacks to enjoy under the shaded picnic tables after the kids have finished splashing around!
