The inaugural Clover Cup hosted by Notre Dame is in the books! The University of Colorado Lady Buffs swept the prizes winning 1st Place Team and the top 3 Individuals awards. One of their players even set the course record for women with a round of 6 under 66!

The Mesa CVB along with Longbow Golf Club partnered with the University of Notre Dame Women’s Golf program in hosting the Clover Cup. This NCAA sanctioned regular season invitational is here to stay with Notre Dame agreeing to a long term partnership with Longbow and Mesa.

This unique tournament has been planned for the past year and included more than just great NCAA Division I golf. We kicked it off with a Collegiate Alumni Challenge, a Pro-Am style event where each foursome got to play with a college girl from their respective schools. A fun time was had by all!

We also hosted all 72 golfers, 24 coaches and other VIP’s for a fabulous St. Patty’s night dinner on the patio Saturday night before Sunday’s final round. A local bagpiper serenaded the crowd as they enjoyed a wonderful dinner while socializing with fellow golfers.

This year the field was comprised of 12 colleges including: Notre Dame, Iowa State, Michigan, Cincinnati, Texas Tech, Colorado, Furman, Florida International, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Southern Methodist, and Tulsa. This year’s event was such a big hit Mesa CVB has 13 schools committed to next year’s Clover Cup so we are sure to sell out!

Since this is a post-event blog, I would like to thank our wonderful partners at Longbow Golf Club, the Phoenix Regional Sports Commission and of course the Notre Dame Lady Irish and coaches Kyle Veltri and Susan Holt. This is another exciting event for Mesa that is here to stay and truly demonstrates the essence of what sports tourism is all about! Until next time, Mesa Sports Guy signing out.
