Eliane Elias and Marc Johnson
Internationally acclaimed pianist, singer, composer, and arranger Eliane Elias and bassist Marc Johnson present their distinctive musical styles in a rare duo performance. Early in their careers, Elias and Johnson established themselves individually as jazz artists on the world stage—Elias with the ensemble Steps Ahead, and Johnson with the Bill Evans Trio. Johnson joined Elias’s trio in 1990, and the two have been touring, composing, and producing albums together ever since.
In this performance, Elias and Johnson demonstrate their affinity for the music of Bill Evans and Antônio Carlos Jobim, the harmonies and rhythms of Brazil, and the romantic ballads and up-tempo swinging standards of Brazilian and American jazz. Their interests in improvised music, their foundations as classically trained musicians, and their understanding of jazz and jazz history inform their unique perspective. They have created more than a dozen beautiful recordings together, and together they have won two Grammy Awards and two Latin Grammy Awards.
