Marilyn Clark Silva

Avant-garde percussionist Marilyn Clark Silva blends balletic gestures with mesmerizing sounds to create richly immersive performances that can be experienced equally through the eyes and ears. Her original music for marimba blends elements of classical, jazz, contemporary, and resonant soundscapes. Silva’s latest album, Elemental (2019), is an immersive musical experience that uses microphones and a loop pedal to create layers of sound that make the listeners feel as though they are surrounded by a certain element, such as air, earth, water, or fire. The performance uses extended techniques on a five-octave marimba, as well as accessory percussion instruments like rain stick, mbira, china cymbal, stones, and kick drum.

Silva is sponsored by both Marimba One Artist and Beetle Percussion. She has a doctorate (DMA) in percussion performance.
