Join the Pueblo Grande Museum Auxiliary for their season opening lecture with Laurene Montero, City Archaeologist as she delves into a unique part of Phoenix history with her presentation “City of Phoenix Archaeology: Why we do What we do” on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at Pueblo Grande Museum.

Find out how and why the City of Phoenix Archaeology Office was created. Did you know Phoenix was the first city in the nation to hire a city archaeologist? And there are still only a handful of city archaeologist around the country? Since that time, dedicated people and events have shaped Phoenix’s City Archaeology program. 

Explore beyond the primary fundamental tasks of compliance, identification, and preservation. Discover the little known fun facts about the history of The City of Phoenix Archaeology Office, and how it has helped to preserve a diverse history and cultural landscape of Arizona, from the prehistoric to the pioneer.

This event is free and open to the public, made possible by the Pueblo Grande Museum Auxiliary. Lectures are held the first Wednesday of each month, October through June from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Community Room at Pueblo Grande Museum. Donations are welcome.
