Join Natural Restorations, Liberty Wildlife & City of Phoenix Parks & Recreation for our Rio Salado Cleanup behind Liberty Wildlife on Saturday, April 6th from 8am to 12pm. Volunteer with us as we help beautify this public access space & encourage others to be a part of the Rio Salado revitalization.
No admission, everyone is welcome! Youth under 18 years old are welcome when accompanied and supervised by a parent, guardian, or adult group leader. Perfect for scouts and youth groups!
Sign-in: 7:30-8:00 a.m. | Safety Briefing: 8 a.m. | Cleanup starts: after safety briefing
What to bring: please bring a pair of work gloves to protect your hands. If you don’t have gloves, we will have some that you can borrow. Trash grabbers and buckets are helpful if you have them.
*Youth volunteers - please bring gloves that fit your hands. We are still trying to get gloves to fit smaller hands, but right now all we have are adult sizes.
What to wear: Check the forecast & dress accordingly. Please wear clothing and shoes that can get dirty, muddy, and possibly wet. Wear long pants, a long sleeve shirt, thick-sole & closed toe sturdy shoes, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. It will likely be chilly in the early morning and warming up as soon as you start moving around. We recommend wearing layers you can easily remove as you start to warm up.
*If you have water shoes, waders, or a pair of shoes you set aside for a river cleanup, this would be a great time to use them. You don’t have to get wet if you don’t want to. Please no flip flops or sandals.
Water: Please help us reduce our use of single-use plastics and bring a refillable water bottle or hydration backpack. We will have water coolers full of water for you to refill your bottles and hydration backpacks. We can increase our impact by making a conscious effort not to use single-use plastic water bottles!
Snacks: We will have snacks for volunteers. If you have any dietary restrictions, you may want to bring your own snack.
Directions: the links below work with Google Maps. If you use Apple Maps with these links, it will take you somewhere other than the cleanup location.
Parking: https://goo.gl/maps/poyQqdzJ4oF2 - Park in the dirt parking lot that is east on Elwood, past Liberty Wildlife, turn left at the Natural Restorations sign directing you to the dirt parking lot.
Sign-in table: https://goo.gl/maps/Fe24YMbF8w32 After parking, walk north to the pathway along the river. Turn right and follow the pathway to the Ramada where we will be, look for the Natural Restorations flags. We suggest looking at these links on Google Maps using the satellite feature so you can see where you are going ahead of time.

Liberty Wildlife is a non-profit wildlife rescue, rehabilitation & education center that's mission is to nurture the nature of Arizona. They opened the facility in 2016 and have been wanting to lead more tours down to the river to show that we have wildlife & habitats even inside the city. Unfortunately, the river collects trash and they find large accumulations right outside their back door.Visit Facebook
