The Queen Creek Olive Mill is urgently looking for experienced Bakers with a minimum of 1-year of baking experience in a commercial kitchen.
Bakers are responsible for following recipes and production guidelines to prepare baked goods while adhering to food safety, food handling, and sanitation procedures. Mix and bake ingredients to produce bread, rolls, cookies, cakes, pies, pastries, or other baked goods as directed by the Pastry Sous Chef or Kitchen Management. Assist in managing the baked goods inventory.
Job Specific Responsibilities
Adhere to all recipes for baked goods and be innately creative and come up with original recipes for new baked goods
All baked goods must be produced as per approved recipes and costing
Make sure product is as fresh as possible to meet volume of restaurant
Observe the color of products being baked and adjust oven temperatures, humidity, or conveyor speeds accordingly
Know and comply consistently with our standard portion sizes, cooking methods, published recipes and specials, quality standards and kitchen rules, policies and procedures
Set oven temperatures and place items into hot ovens for baking
Combine measured ingredients in bowls of mixing, blending, or cooking machinery
Measure or weigh ingredients to prepare batters, doughs, fillings, or icings, using scales or graduated containers
Roll, knead, cut, or shape dough to form sweet rolls, pie crusts, tarts, cookies, or other products
Place dough in pans, molds, or on sheets and bake in production ovens or on grills
Verify the quality of raw materials to ensure standards and specifications are met
Apply glazes, icings, or other toppings to baked goods, using spatulas or brushes
Check equipment to ensure that it meets health and safety regulations and perform maintenance or cleaning, as necessary
Decorate baked goods, such as cakes or pastries
Set time and speed controls for mixing machines, blending machines, or steam kettles so that ingredients will be mixed or cooked according to instructions
Adhere to the FIFO (first in, first out) rule
Adhere to company policies regarding following recipes
Label and date all products in the display area, walk-in and freezer area
Proper handwashing techniques and glove wearing
Assist in creation of new recipes
Qualifications
A minimum of 2 years experience as a baker or with eligible certification/degree
Possess an up-to-date food handler permit and credentials for the county in which he/she is employed
Be able to cope with the stress of seasonal sales activity and hours
Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 12 hours)
Time Management: Work with employees, customers and management, create schedules, order supplies and write reports. Time management is essential to make sure everything gets done
Excellent critical thinking & decision-making skills
Customer Service Skills: Customers are going to ask to speak to the Manager. How you interact with customers is crucial for repeat business, employee morale and the health of your company. Great customer service skills will help you solve issues before they become problems, and help foster customer loyalty
Be able to communicate and understand the predominant language(s) of your department
Be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds
A passion for the culinary sciences and team building
Must be at least 21 years of age
