Arizona Trail

Details
Map

The Arizona Trail, the dream of Flagstaff teacher and hiking enthusiast Dale Shewalter, will eventually be a 790 mile non-motorized trail that traverses the state from Mexico to Utah. The Arizona Trail is intended to be a primitive, long distance trail that highlights the state's topographic, biologic, historic, and cultural diversity. The primary users are hikers, equestrians, and mountain bicyclists. Opportunities will also exist for cross-country skiers, snowshoers, joggers, and packstock users. Government agencies, volunteers, and private groups and businesses are working together to make the Arizona Trail a reality. Back-country areas, such as those found along the Arizona trail, are places to seek solitude and a "wilderness experience" away from crowds, noise, and daily pressures of life. By using Leave No Trace skills, trail users can reduce their impact on the diverse, fragile, and spectacular areas in Arizona.
