i.d.e.a. Museum


The fun, inspiring, and educational hands-on art museum for children and families traveling to Mesa, Arizona. Their museum includes popular art and art-inspired activities, while adding science, engineering and design-thinking in the multi-sensory experiences provided with an increased use of technology to support these offerings and even more opportunities for families to create together.

Weather or Not: Art With Atmosphere – Sept. 27, 2019 thru Jan 19, 2020
Weather or Not: Art with Atmosphere features 20 artists showcasing the following medias: painting, sculpture, ceramics, mixed-media monotypes, woodcut prints, drawings, glass, fiber, digital photographs and video. Arizona artists are: Ivan Martinez of Mesa; Jerry Jacobson of Tempe, and Laura Spaulding Best of Phoenix. International artists represent the Czech Republic, Netherlands and Switzerland. 

Additionally, the exhibition also will feature weather photographs from the collections of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Highlighted activities include experiencing a realistic mini tornado and enjoying the soothing sounds and smells of a rainstorm, as well as experimenting with light and color, making artful representations of snow and clouds, and giving the weather forecast in a green screen activity. 

Art of the Story – February 7-May 24, 2020
This spring experience the art of storytelling at the i.d.e.a. Museum. This exhibition – Art of the Story - will feature stories told through various mediums, which includes visual arts, spoken word, poems, film, animation, pop-up books, novels, short stories, dance, music, and other forms of creative narrative expression. Join us on a journey featuring art and hands-on activities that nurture creative thinking and embrace the storyteller within us all.
