The Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation opposed the federal Orme Dam project for 13 years, until the Department of the Interior made the decision November 12, 1981 to adopt alternatives to the construction of Orme Dam. The proposed dam would have flooded a large portion of the Fort McDowell Reservation and forced tribal members to relocate. Orme Dam Victory Days will celebrate the social and economic gains made by Fort McDowell during the past 29 years. Scheduled events include a competition pow wow, Yavapai Village with cultural song and dance, all-Indian rodeo, parade, golf tournament, Battle of the Bands, and many more events.
