Pet Friendly Patios in Mesa City Limitless
Have dog will travel is the trend these days.
DOGS DIG MESA’S PET-FRIENDLY PATIOS
By: Teresa Bitler
Mesa offers many hotel properties happy to check-in four-legged guests and when it’s time to eat, going out for a meal doesn’t require leaving your favorite pet behind. Pets matter and visitors to Mesa with furry friends in tow are always welcome on these patios.
For a made-from-scratch breakfast or brunch, you can’t beat What’s Crackin. Its shaded patio is dog-friendly and features a full bar serving $3 mimosas, local craft beers and a Bloody Mary voted one of the best in the state. Try the Monte Cristo sandwich, eggs benedict options or any of the New Mexican-influenced dishes.
6663 E. McDowell Rd., Mesa
One of the Valley’s best local breweries, the Beer Research Institute—or BRI, as it’s known to locals—boasts two pet-friendly patios, one in front and one in back. Bring your pet for an afternoon on either patio, where you can sample small-batch brews, tackle a fresh-ground burger or share ‘meat candy’ (Sriracha-glazed bacon) with friends.
1641 S. Stapley Dr., #104, Mesa
This 50s-style diner located in the growing Eastmark community has only 11 seats inside at the counter, so most patrons end up seated at shaded picnic tables outside. Plan on eating there, and your four-legged friends can join you. At breakfast, the chef-run kitchen turns out house-made pastries and other goodies. For lunch and dinner, enjoy farm-to-table entrées featuring fresh produce from Steadfast Farms next door.
5149 S. Inspirian Pkwy., Mesa
The farmhouse-turned-diner where restauranteur Joe Johnston grew up has a pet-friendly patio and picnic tables on the surrounding grounds. It also has amazing food. Choose from smoked meats, chicken sandwiches and local favorites like the Ahi Tuna Sandwich and Fontina Burger, both singled out on Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.”
3000 E. Ray Rd., Bldg. 1, Gilbert
Uncle Bear’s Grill & Tap
Named for the owners’ late Labrador mix, Bear, this pet-centric restaurant fills dog bowls with peanuts for munching and decorates with portraits of customers’ four-legged companions. “Come, Sit and Stay” with your dog on the fenced-in patio as you sip on their popular local craft brews.
9053 E. Baseline Rd., #101A, Mesa
Flying Basset Brewing
Started by a pilot and former head brewer for a local BJ’s Restaurant and Brewery, his wife and their two basset hounds, Lt. Dan and Angela, Flying Basset Brewing serves breakfast, lunch and dinner on its pet-friendly patio. Popular beers include the Flying Basset Copper Ale, Flying Basset Blonde and Flying Basset Tuskegee Red.
