Welcome to the Town of Gilbert - Small Town Charm with Big City Vibes
When visiting Mesa, you won't want to miss our charming next door neighbor, Town of Gilbert.
There is just a mere invisible boundary between us but we can't stand to be too far apart. Gilbert retains their "Town" title to keep that quaint, small town feel even though it boasts more than 230,000 people over a span of 72.6 sq. miles! Within the last twenty years Gilbert has undergone some major revitalization, especially in what is now called the Heritage District. Located on Gilbert Road between Guadalupe and Elliott Roads, you will find a mile long strip of delectable local-driven restaurants, antique and boutique shops, live music and endless amount of fun for all. My boyfriend and I made our way to Downtown Gilbert this past weekend.
We both grew up in Gilbert and are relatively familiar with the area but this was first time we truly explored the downtown's night life. It was a Saturday night, 75 degrees and as we proceeded to walk down Gilbert Road, we saw a mix of people from children and families to teenagers and adults. Sweet savory smells filled the air and we knew right away one of them was Joe's Real Barbecue slow-cooked pulled pork. Mmm... I could just taste it now! At that moment, we were more than excited to be taking our palate's on this culinary adventure. As Gilbert locals, we are excited to welcome Zinburger Wine & Burger Bar and Lo Lo's Chicken & Waffles to this side of town. At Zinburger, visitors can enjoy a Certified Angus burger paired with their favorite milkshake, or head next door to the downtown's latest addition, Lo Lo's Chicken and Waffles. Famous for their southern fried chicken and fully made waffles, perfect to satisfy the soul. Take a step back into the 1950's at Oregano's. This Chicago-inspired eatery offers a huge selection of deep dish or thin-crust pizza. Tip: You must try their Original Pizza Cookie, topped with Vanilla Bean ice cream. It won't disappoint. Right down the way is Liberty Market, a Zagat-rated casual urban bistro serving up a diverse menu from firewood pizza to gourmet sandwich's and salads. They even have an espresso bar and assortment of beer and wine. Located futher east in Gilbert is the ever-popular Joe's Farm Grill, where they do common food done uncommonly well. Of course, we have our personal favorites, Postino East Wine Café & Joyride Taco House. Shared under the same culinary household, these palate-pleasers give off a vibrant energy that makes everyone feel forever young.
For the next month, I'm going to be tasting my way through all of Gilbert's wonderful fare sharings and best kept foodie secrets. Stay tuned for next week's blog as I will be writing about my experience at Joyride Taco House, Zinburger Wine & Burger Bar and Postino East Wine Café.
