Firing the Anvil
Overview
The Superstition Mountain Lost Dutchman Museum is pleased to announce a celebration of the return of blacksmiths to our campus: Firing the Anvil, on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 11:00am to 2:00pm. This family-friendly event will take place on the museum grounds.
The event falls a day prior to St. Clement’s Day, celebrating blacksmiths and metal workers on Pope Clement I’s feast day. "Old Clem's Night" started literally with a bang and showers of sparks during the ritual "firing of the anvil." Smiths demonstrate their art and display decorative ironware, followed by dancing and feasting. Joining our SMLDM team is Iron Rhino Forge, who will demonstrate the art of blacksmithing, providing small projects to visitors. We celebrate the return of the blacksmiths... "To the memory of Old Clem, and prosperity to all his descendants!"
