FAQ

Wind Cave FAQ

Is Wind Cave kid-friendly?
Yes for most school-age kids with breaks; it is a steady climb with rocky steps near the top. Reassess around the 1-mile mark before the steeper section.
How long does it take?
Plan 1.5-2.5 hours round-trip depending on group pace, photos, and heat.
What is the best time of day?
Morning - ideally at or just after park open. In summer, start at sunrise and finish by mid-morning.
Are dogs allowed?
Yes, on leash. Bring extra water and avoid hot mid-day surfaces.
Is there shade?
Minimal until the alcove. Wear sun protection and carry water.
Do I need to pay to enter the park?
Yes. Usery Mountain Regional Park has a day-use entry fee. Check the park website for current rates and hours.
Can I hike Wind Cave at sunset?
Yes, but bring headlamps and leave a buffer to exit before gate closing. The rocky descent is slower in low light.
