Avoid midday hikes in summer when temperatures can climb quickly.
Getting There
The hike begins at Carney Springs Trailhead off Peralta Road near Gold Canyon. From Downtown Mesa, the drive takes about 45 minutes to one hour, depending on traffic.
Peralta Road eventually becomes a graded dirt road. The parking area is small and fills up quickly, especially on weekends. Arriving early helps secure a spot.
