Overview

They came from Britain, trained under Arizona skies, and became part of Mesa’s history.

On Saturday, May 30th, the Mesa Historical Museum is proud to open a new exhibit honoring the Royal Air Force cadets who trained at Falcon Field during World War II, along with the families whose letters, photographs, and memories help tell their stories today. Through rare photographs, personal correspondence, uniforms, artifacts, and firsthand accounts, visitors will discover what life was like for these young men as they learned to fly in the Arizona desert, formed lasting friendships, and prepared for service overseas. The exhibit also explores Falcon Field’s lasting impact in some unexpected ways—including its remarkable connection to the beloved television series Thunderbirds.

Join us as we share this unique chapter of Mesa history and remember the men who earned their wings here more than 80 years ago.
