The city of Mesa consists of 50+ parks and 133 basins covering more than 2,000 acres throughout the city (download map). Two of those parks (Countryside and Quail Run) are Dog Parks, with designated off leash dog areas. At approximately 120,000 acres, Maricopa County is home to 10 parks and is one of the largest regional park systems in the United States. All trails within the Maricopa County Park System are for non-motorized use only. Within close proximity to Mesa are two state parks: Boyce Thompson Arboretum State Park and Lost Dutchman State Park. From hiking to horseback riding to birdwatching, the local parks offer visitors the best of the Sonoran Desert.
