Meet The Baker: Elizabeth Curtis
At Pied Piper Bakery, pie is a family story.
Elizabeth Curtis is a third-generation pie maker carrying that tradition forward in Mesa, where the family-owned bakery makes sweet pies, cheesecakes, cookies and savory pot pies from scratch.
“At Pied Piper, what we are doing is we make homemade pies and cheesecakes and cookies,” Curtis says. “We also have savory pot pies.”
Pie Comes With a Story
For Curtis, the bakery is as much about the people walking through the door as what comes out of the oven.
“We are family-owned,” she says. “We love talking to our customers. We love hearing their pie stories.”
Those stories might be tied to a holiday table, a family recipe or the pie someone always requests for a birthday. Pied Piper gives visitors an easier option when they want the tradition without spending the afternoon rolling dough.
“Maybe you don't want to bake the pie, we'll bake it for you.”
Must Try Pies
Elizabeth has two recommendations for first-time visitors: key lime pie or cheesecake.
Pied Piper’s current menu includes key lime among its citrus pies and a rotating range of cheesecakes, along with classics such as apple, cherry, peach and strawberry rhubarb. Savory options include chicken pot pie, green chile chicken and shepherd’s pie.
