December 18, 2020–April 18, 2021: Harold Lohner, Forbidden Colors
An Arizona artist, a font designer and printmaker, who rarely makes print editions. Instead, through bold, graphic shapes, Lohner captures the human figure in patterned layers and colors to create visually striking monoprints and one-of-a-kind artist books.
February 12–April 18, 2021: 42nd Annual Contemporary Crafts
Highlighting the finest in contemporary crafts from across the country, Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum’s Annual Contemporary Crafts exhibition has become a benchmark for innovation and quality.
February 12–April 25, 2021: Becky Mcdonah: Preserving Precious Elements
Explores conversations on importance of prestige, presentation, and access or limited access to the contents. She uses the reliquary format as metaphor for “preciousness,” because of its ability to elaborately protect and display venerated objects.
April 9 - August 8, 2021: Angel Carales:The Uncolonized: A Vision in the Parallel
El Paso sculptor and mixed media artist Angel Cabrales is known for his provocative social commentaries on the Latin-American experience. In his latest body of work, Cabrales reimagines history in a SciFi- inspired parallel universe, where the Western Hemisphere was never colonized.
April 16 - August 8, 2021: Rodrigo De Toledo: The Myth of the Incomplete Self
Rodrigo de Toledo 's exhibition takes us into the illuminated pages of a manuscript codex, where ancient and modern symbols are reinvented into a new context and iconography. Deities, creatures and myths from a lost civilization inhabit cosmo-mythological realms and archetypal diagrams, displayed on canvas, leather parchment, paper, and installation.
April 23 - August 8, 2021: Docents Selection: Indigenous Americas - Works from the Permanet Collection
This exhibition was entirely curated by the MCA Museum Docents and demonstrates some of the research they have conducted on pieces from the permanent collection by artists with Indigenous heritage from North and South America.
May 14 - August 8, 2021: Cannupa Hanska Luger: Passage
Collaborative, site-specific exhibition - The centerpiece is Something to Hold Onto , Luger's second project from his Counting Coup series. This immersive installation is made from 7,000+ 1-inch unfired clay beads. Each bead represents a life lost along the US-Mexico border in the last 30 years and is intended to humanize these staggering statistics.
